Louis Braille, who
was blind, wanted to be able to read. When he was three years old he was blinded
by an accident. He went to a special school in Paris where he was happy. When
Louis was 15 years old he created the alphabet in a code of dots; an idea he
got from the French army. Each letter was a pattern of 1 to 6 raised dots. He
learned to read and write quickly by using his new alphabet. His code was banned
from his school because the teachers didn’t like the idea. Five years later he
published his system in 1819. Louis Braille helped blind people everywhere to be
able to read and write.
